Home and Garden Show

The New Orleans Home and Garden show is starting up again which always is an exciting and somewhat stressful time for us at Central City Millworks.

Its always a fun experience to get to come out and see the crafts on display, and to mingle with other people from around the city with similar interests, but we at Cetral City Millworks always have an added pressure of coming up with a project that will showcase our capabilities as craftsmen.

I would love to spoil the fun and tell everyone what we have come up with for this years show, but then I would be afraid that people wouldn’t be as eager to come over and visit. So hopefully we will see you there.

Central City Millworks- New Orleans Might need more LSU signs

If the LSU Tigers keeping playing baseball the way they did in the second half of the series against the Anteaters, we at Central City Millworks may have to fire up our CNC router and design team for another championship LSU team.

Back in January when Louisiana State University became the first team to win the BCS Championship twice, we at Central City Millworks made some custom signs to commiserate the win over Ohio State. Since LSU has some of the greatest football fans in the country it was no surprise to receive orders after the National Championship game. But it wouldn’t be surprising to see the baseball fans match the football fans fervor. Even if the Tigers fall short in Omaha, which seems unlikely, maybe a nice commemorative sign in honor of Alex Box Stadium would still be in order.

Geaux Tigers. Give them hell in Omaha.

Louisiana Home & Garden Show

This weekend is the Louisiana Home and Garden Show at the Superdome and Central City Millworks is please to announce that we will be in attendance, displaying some of our finest work.  Come see us at Booth 672 to see some of our bracket designs, shutters, railing & balusters and much more.  While there you can look at our full portfolio to see all of the gorgeous cabinetry, stairs, doors windows and other woodwork that we produce.  We will also be featuring out antique heart pine flooring.  Reclaimed heart pine is a better alternative to white or carribean pine because it is more durable, more fitting with New Orleans architecture, and “green” because it is all reclaimed material, not newly milled.

So if you are interested in New Orleans millworks, come by Booth 672 to meet Central City Millworks.

New Orleans Architectural Bracket

In addition to being able to cut cabinets quickly and efficiently, the CNC Router is able to cut intricate patterns that are drawn on Corel Draw and then sent to the machine.  Using this technique we recently made a bracket for a house that is being renovated by Hal Collums Construction.  Click here to see the Bracket

Bracket

This house originally had 5 brackets under the front eave, but two were missing.  We took a picture of one of the existing brackets and then carefully traced that picture on the computer.

The bracket is made in 3 pieces.  The middle piece is solid and painted a contrasting color.  The two pieces with the cutouts sandwich the middle together to form the traditional architectural detail.
